Rajasthan HC takes note of missing tigers in Ranthambore

Taking suo motu cognizance on the matter of missing tigers in Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan High Court has sent notices to the concerned officials asking them to reply on the matter by April 23.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has taken suo motu cognizance on the matter of missing tigers in Ranthambore National Park.

According to reports, at least six tigers are missing for the past one year from here.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice Indrajeet Mahanti and justice Satish Kumar Sharma issued notices to the principal secretary, department of forest, chief conservator of forest (wildlife) Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (RTR) and Dharmendra Khandal, conservation biologist, NGO, Tiger Watch. The bench has asked to reply on the matter by April 23.

Notably, the Ranthambore forest is spread across an area of 1,334 sq km. According to the officials, there are about 70 tigers in the reserve.

In December last year, a statewide alert against poaching was issued after camera traps inside the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve captured images of a tiger with a hunting snare-like wire noose coiled around its neck.
