Jaipur:The Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali, the Centre and state government, along with the NIMS University, seeking a reply on the company's 'Coronil' drug.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice Prakash Gupta issued the order while hearing a PIL challenging Ramdev's claims regarding the drug.

The bench asked Patanjali, the state government, the Union AYUSH Ministry, ICMR, and Rajasthan’s NIMS University, which is said to have collaborated with the company in manufacturing the medicine, to file their replies on the plea.

The plea filed by SK Singh, accused Patanjali of launching the drug without proper testing and giving proper details to AYUSH and ICMR.

The petitioner further contended that people who will take the medicine might contract COVID-19 and are also at the risk of death.

Pertinently, the petitioner SK Singh has a history with Ramdev as back in 2018, he had filed an FIR, claiming that Patanjali's biscuits, which claimed to be made with 100 per cent whole wheat, had maida (refined flour) mixed in them.

The latest development comes just a few days after the Uttarakhand High Court issued similar notices over the drug.

Meanwhile, the Union AYUSH Ministry has said that Patanjali can sell 'Coronil' but only as an immunity booster, days after Patanjali launched it as a medicine for COVID-19.

Ramdev claimed that the ministry had asked him to use the term "Covid management" in place of "Covid treatment" and he is following the instruction.
