Rajasthan: Congress expels ex-MLA, alleged rape-accused Mewaram Jain

The chief of the Rajasthan unit of Congress Govind Singh Dotasara has expelled former MLA Mewaram Jain from the party for being allegedly involved in a rape case. An objectional video with the man in question is doing the rounds as well.

Barmer (Rajasthan):Congress on Saturday suspended its former Barmer MLA, Mewaram Jain, for being allegedly involved in a gang rape case and following this, two video clips featuring him in an obscene act went viral. However, ETV Bharat does not confirm the authenticity of the videos.

Meanwhile, the assaulted woman filed a case against nine people including the former MLA at Rajiv Nagar police station in Jodhpur on December 22. As per her complaint, she was gang raped by Jain and others at her house in Jodhpur. She also alleged that a minor staying with her was also sexually assaulted.

Cops also registered a case under POCSO on the alleged assault on the minor as per the woman's complaint.

She also mentioned that the video in the complaint, however, the objectionable clips were already discussed before the state assembly elections, and some screenshots of the video had gone viral.

While hearing this, the court had stayed the arrest of the former MLA in the High Court till January 25 and ordered cooperation in the investigation.

Following the incident, Congress Party State President Govind Singh Dotasara has expelled the former MLA from the party, sources confirmed.

State Congress chief Govind Singh took to his X handle and released a press note on the same. The note read, "Sh. Mewaram Jain (Ex-MLA, Barmer) has been suspended from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect in view of his involvement in immoral activities which is a clear indication of a breach of discipline under the constitution of the Congress Party.
