Lockdown: Railways stops transportation of camel milk for autistic children

As the coronavirus continues to creep across the country, the Indian railways has decided to stop the transportation of camel milk, under SETU scheme, for the children suffering from autism and food allergy across the country.

Pali (Rajasthan): Amid growing concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Indian railways has decided to stop the transportation of camel milk, under SETU scheme, for the children suffering from autism and food allergy across the country.

It is to be noted that a few days back, Indian Railways transported 20 litres of camel milk to a family in Mumbai from Rajasthan's Falna district after a woman tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the non-availability of the product.

In the tweet, the woman had stated that her three and a half-year-old child who is autistic, is dependent on camel milk and is allergic to goat, cow and buffalo milk. However, in the ongoing nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, certain products are not easily available in the market.

After this, the railways realised the pain of autistic children and made camel milk available for them in several parts of the country including Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and Delhi, besides Mumbai under the SETU scheme, a voluntary initiative launched by IRTS (Indian Railway Traffic Service) Probationers.

It is to be noted that ongoing lockdown has disrupted the supply chains across the country and now with no transportation of camel milk, a number of autistic children are bound to suffer.

It is to be noted that SETU is a voluntary initiative of IRTS officers, with about 30 probationers and a handful of young officers.
