Bharatpur (Rajasthan): Green coriander, considered a staple in Indian diet, has virtually vanished from household kitchens in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, as the price of the herb soared to an unimaginable Rs 400 per kilogram.

According to reports, heavy rain over the past few days led to green coriander crops suffering extensive damage across the district.

As a result, vegetable vendors have been forced to get the supply of green coriander from other states, which has made the herb extremely expensive,

"The entire stock of green coriander is coming from outside, there is nothing in the district. Much of the stock also goes bad by the time it arrives here. Transportation costs have made it extremely expensive," said Ram Prakash, a vegetable vendor.

During normal times, vendors often throw in a bunch of coriander free when their customers buy vegetables. However, the market rate for green coriander today was a whopping Rs 400 per kilogram.

Owing to the sky-high prices, people have stopped buying green coriander, which in turn has forced vendors to acquire a lesser amount of stock with each passing day.
