Polluting industrial areas of Rajasthan pose biggest environmental threat

450 industrial units in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan has been contributing majorly towards air pollution, however the government has not taken any steps to bring down the pollution level in the city.

Jaipur: Textile industry in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan with 450 industrial units, has been playing a very hazardous role, impacting India's growth as air quality drops in more city, a source said.

According to reports, the industrial units of Bhilwara are not operating with the safety criteria laid down by the government. However, Central Pollution Control Board makes people aware about the repercussion of polluting nature, only on the World Environment day, an environmentalist said.

Bhilwara Textile Trade Federation's General Secretary, Prem Swarup Garg stated "government has set new standards to combat different kinds of pollution but many industrial units are not following it despite government's repeated warnings. I think all the industrialists need to come forward and think about environment as a whole only then we will be able to bring down the level of air pollution."

He further added that toxic gases like sulfur dioxide and Nitric oxide released by factories are getting mixed in the air and therefore causing a lot of health hazards to the people living in nearby areas.

"Bhilwara district comparatively has more number of two and four wheeler. The air pollution is therefore a great concern in the city, on the other hand textile units have also been adding majorly to the water pollution. We all need to be aware of our activities that have been contributing to the pollution, we need to use electric car and try to banish the usage of diesel and petrol," State in-charge of People for Animals Babulal asserted.

He elaborated that the problem of air pollution can only be solved if we give a way to afforestation activities across the globe.
