No plans to include MBC reservation in Ninth schedule, says Union Minister

Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar while speaking to ETV Bharat during his Jaipur visit stated that there are no plans to include most backward class (MBC) reservation in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Jaipur:Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar on Sunday stated that there are no plans to include most backward class (MBC) reservation in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Union Minister said, "There is no such proposal under the consideration of central government related to the inclusion of MBC-under which Gurjars are getting 5% reservation in Rajasthan Judicial Services- in the Ninth Schedule of the constitution."

Last year, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had amended the Rajasthan Judicial Service Rules 2010 to include reservations for Gurjars. As per the amended rules, candidates from the most backward class (MBC), including Gurjars will get 5% reservation in Rajasthan Judicial Services instead of the earlier 1%.

Union Minister made the statement while talking to ETV Bharat during his visit to Jaipur to attend a program organized by the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha in Gautam Nagar.

During his visit, Union Minister was accompanied by BJP state president Satish Poonia and Morcha state president Kailash Meghwal along with MLA Madan Dilawar and Morcha city president Jitendra Lodia. Virendra Kumar interacted with the people of Basti and informed them about the welfare schemes related to his department.

Minister stated that beneficiaries in some states including Rajasthan are not receiving the benefits of the welfare schemes provided by the central government.

Talking about the inclusion of MBC in the Ninth schedule, Minister gave the example of the reservation of the Maratha community which was halted by the Supreme Court. He said a review petition which was filed in the Supreme Court was also rejected by the court. Then a Constitutional Amendment Bill was brought in the Lok Sabha to give rights to the state governments to add and remove people in the reservation category.

The state government had also written a letter to the Centre in connection with this issue.

During the recently held Lok Sabha session, Rajasthan's MBC Samaj and Gurjar leader Colonel Kirori Bainsla and his son Vijay Bainsla, had written a letter and mails to the parliamentarians of Rajasthan to raise the matter in Parliament.

Minister added that since 2014, equipments worth Rs 1,200 crore have also been distributed among specially-abled through 10,000 camps.
