Jaipur (Rajasthan): Authorities have suspended two police personnel, including the station house officer (SHO) following the murder of the national president of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, in Jaipur, sources said on Thursday. It is learnt that Jaipur Police Commissioner on Wednesday suspended the SHO of Shyam Nagar police station and the beat constable.

The suspension of the two cops comes after Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was shot dead inside his house in Jaipur under Shyam Nagar police station limits on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the assailants came on the pretext of talking to Gogamedi. After talking to him for some time, the assailants opened fire on Gogamedia leaving him dead. One assailant was also shot dead in the retaliatory firing by Gogamedi's guards while one of the guards received critical gunshot wounds.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the widow of the Karni Sena chief, Sheela Shekhawat informed that the SHO of Shyam Nagar police station and the beat constable have been suspended for negligence in connection with the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. Sheela Shekhawat said that she has been assured by the police that the accused will be arrested within 72 hours.

Significantly, in the police complaint lodged with the police, Sheela Shekhawat has named outgoing Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and DGP Rajasthan. Sheela Shekhawat alleged that on 14 February 2023, Punjab Police had written a letter to the Director General of Police Rajasthan informing that a conspiracy was being hatched to kill her husband Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.

She said that the report alleges that "despite so many inputs, the responsible officials including the state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the Director General of Police deliberately did not provide security to my husband”. Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the Karni Sena chief will be kept for public viewing at Rajput Sabha Bhawan in Jaipur at 7 am on Thursday while the last rites will be performed at his native village, Gogamedi in the afternoon.

The authorities have deployed the Central Armed Police Force at sensitive locations in Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan to avert any possible law and order situation on the funeral day. The Rajasthan government had on Wednesday written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to deploy the CAPFs to the state in view of tensions following Gogamedi's murder.

An official said that Central Armed Police Force and Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed at certain sensitive locations in the city to prevent any law and order situation. In a sigh of relief for the administration, the protests that erupted in the wake of Gogamedi's killing have been called off and the situation is under control as of now.

Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation. Sources said that the sequence of events leading to the murder of Gogamedi will be investigated by a retired judge of the high court. The post-mortem on the Karni Sena chief will be conducted at SMS Hospital in Jaipur.

Rajasthan Police has claimed to have identified two shooters involved in the killing. The two assailants were identified as Rohit Rathore Makrana and Nitin Fauji. The latter is a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana. Police have announced a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on the assailants.
