Jodhpur: locust attack in posh areas of Luni

Jodhpur's Saraswati Nagar, which is a posh area of the city, has been hit by a locust swarm. According to locals, despite repeatedly seeking help from the administration, no govt department came forward to help them. The locals have tried cheering and bursting crackers to drive away the locusts but to no wail.

Luni (Rajasthan): In the midst of a global pandemic, one more problem of locust swarm haunts people in Saraswati Nagar, which is a posh area of the city. To drive away the locusts, the locals tried cheering and bursting crackers, but none of it worked and the locusts flew on their own after around for 24 hours, eating the leaves of many trees.

Residents said that they sought help from the administration but no government department helped them. At the same time, a swarm of locust reached the area around Kudi Bhagtasani, Madhuban Housing Board and Basni, which caused chaos there. A local, Jagdish Nahata, said that after the locusts came in the area, he started giving information to the departments concerned. He called the police first, after this the information was given to the control room.

Information was also given to the District Administration, Municipal Corporation, Locust Control Department and Agriculture Department but no action was taken. Shanti Pandit, the ward spectator of the corporation came and spoke to Virendra Singh Solanki, Deputy Director of the agriculture department and said that due to the area being a residential area, control action cannot be taken since the chemical spray cannot be carried out in the residential areas. Action can only be taken after the locusts fly away from here to an open area.
