Jaisalmer:The princely state Jaisalmer Maharawal (King), Brajraj Singh passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Delhi.
52-year-old Singh was unwell since the past few weeks. A pall of gloom descended in Jaisalmer on news of the former ruler’s passing.
Singh was suffering from liver problems and he was taken to Medanta Hospital in Delhi by air ambulance. He breathed his last during treatment this morning.
The flag was flown at half-mast at the Sonar fort where the royal family resides. After his death, the flag of Sonar Durg was tilted.
Singh is survived by his wife Rajeshwari Rajya Lakshmi who belongs to the royal family of Nepal and two sons, Chaitanya Raj Singh Bhati and Janmejaya Raj Singh Bhati.
Singh was born on 31 November 1968 in Jaisalmer. He was married on 28 January 1993 to Rajeshwari Devi, daughter of Maharaja Sahadeva Shamsher Jung Bahadur of Nepal.
Meanwhile, there is a wave of mourning across the district with the news of his death and grief is being expressed on behalf of Jaisalmer residents paying tribute to the death of former Maharawal Brijraj Singh on social media too.
