Jaipur hospital claims cure for rare Pompe disease

Recently, the doctors at JK hospital have found a cure for Pompe disease and spinal muscular Atrophy-1, which is said to be among the rarest diseases in India, according to the hospital superintendent Dr Ashok Gupta.

Jaipur: In a breakthrough in medical surgery, a hospital in Jaipur has carried out research for the treatment of exceptional medical disorders.

Recently, the doctors at JK hospital have found a cure for Pompe disease and spinal muscular Atrophy-1, which is said to be among the rarest diseases in India, according to the hospital superintendent Dr Ashok Gupta.

Dr Gupta informed that a similar case was recently reported from JK Lone Hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Agra.

Jaipur based hospital finds possible treatment for Pompe disease

The doctor said that for the last few days, a child was having trouble while breathing. Earlier, the child was being treated in Agra, after the health of the child deteriorated, doctors referred the child to JK Hospital. When the child was examined, doctors found that in addition to weakness, the child also had muscle and heart problems.

He further said that a DBS sample of the child was sent to Delhi for further testing and it was confirmed as Pompe disease. Doctors also tested the sample for spinal muscular Atrophy-1 through MLPA technique and it was found the child was suffering from both diseases.

Expensive treatment

The cost of the treatment could go upto Rs 30 lakh per year. However, funds are being made available through the Anukampa Upyog Programme.
