Gujjars' protest disrupts road, rail traffic in Rajasthan

The on-going Gujjars' protest in Rajasthan has disrupted road, rail traffic and internet services in the state. The protestors say if the government does not accept their demands they would block other roads and rail links passing through the state.

Karoli: The on-going agitation by Gujjars, who are demanding the Rajasthan government to fulfil the past promises regarding reservation to the community, has disrupted road, rail traffic and internet services, causing problems to the people.

A few weeks ago, Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla had said the government should fulfil the promises failing which an agitation will be launched from November 1.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, the community leaders said if the government does not accept their demands they would block other roads and rail links passing through the state.

On being asked how long will they go on protesting, they replied saying that the protest would continue till their demands are met.

"Ours is not a ten-day-old protest. It has been on since February last year," one of the leaders said, adding that the government had asked for three-month time and we have given them over 17 months to resolve the issue.

Bainsla had last year spearheaded the Gujjar agitations in the state over their demand of five per cent quota in jobs and educational institutions.
