Jodhpur: In a heartbreaking story that showcases the grim scenario during India’s second COVID-19 wave, girls had to carry their mother's body in a loading taxi in Rajasthan's Jodhpur district.
As per reports, Santoshlata, wife of a retired Army Subedar, had succumbed to COVID-19 on her way to Military Hospital in Jodhpur. She was a resident of Akbarpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Girls perform last rites of their mother Following this, her daughters had to carry the body in a loading taxi to the cremation ground after ambulances and other vehicles refused to carry it.
The girls, wearing the PPE kits, also performed the last rites of their mother and shown the live video of procession on the mobile phone to their father who was in Uttar Pradesh.
In another incident reported from Barmer, the daughter of a COVID-19 victim jumped into the pyre of her father and sustained 70% burn injuries on Tuesday. She was admitted to the hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government claims that the recovery rate from COVID-19 increased by 61% in the state over the past one week on the back of increased testing, new containment zones and strict enforcement of COVID-containment measures. The state's overall recovery rate has reached 69.43%.
