Gurjar delegation reaches agreement with Rajasthan govt

While Gurjar leader Kirodi Singh Baisla is reportedly inclined towards going ahead with plans of the agitation over demands of reservation, another delegation from the community held talks with the government and arrived at an agreement.

Jaipur (Rajasthan): The Gurjar community is preparing to hit the streets once again from November 1 demanding reservation. However, there seems to be disagreement within the Gurjars over their plan of action.

According to reports, the government and a 41-member delegation from the Gurjar community held extensive talks spanning over seven hours and reached an agreement based on 14 points, following which Gurjar leader Himmat Singh said there was no need for agitation.

Singh said since the government had agreed to all their demands, there was no need for agitation.

According to reports, the delegation granted seven weeks time to the government over the issue of REET recruitment.

Following the talks, Rajasthan Ministers Raghu Sharma and Ashok Chandana addressed a press conference along with Himmat Singh.

Meanwhile, the son of Gurjar leader Kirodi Singh Bainsla said that the community would hold another 'mahapanchayat' at 10 am on Sunday morning to decide on the future course of action, and whether the agitation would begin as scheduled.

Bainsla, at a meeting in Gurla village of Karauli district on Saturday, had said that the movement will begin as scheduled on November 1. Baisla appealed to the people to reach the agitation spot in maximum numbers.

While Gurjar leader Kirodi Singh Bainsla said that he would go ahead and hold the agitation on November 1 with a railway/road blockade from Pilupura in Bharatpur district, a delegation representing 80 villages around Pilupura held talks with the government at the Secretariat today.

Internet ban in 4 districts and more than 20 areas

In view of the possible agitation, the Gehlot government decided to suspend mobile internet services in some parts of Jaipur rural as well as Gurjar-dominated districts including Dausa, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur.

National Security Act implemented in 8 districts

Several districts in Rajasthan have been put under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980 keeping in mind the possible disruptions in law and order -- Bharatpur, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, Tonk, Bundi, Jhalawar, Karauli.

Meanwhile, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) imposed in Rajasthan's Dholpur city and Karauli ahead of the Gurjar community agitation.

Security tightened:

  • 30 police companies to handle movement
  • Seven Border Homeguards companies deployed
  • Two Rapid Action Force teams deployed
  • Eight companies of CRPF, RAC deployed
  • Six Additional SPs, Deputy SPs, and several inspectors were also sent to the protest site
  • Total of 2,704 police forces deployed in Gurjar-dominated areas
