Jaisalmer:To control the spread of locusts in Rajasthan, the government has deployed air power-drones and helicopters to strengthen its locust control capabilities.
The Bell 206-B3 helicopter which has a capacity to carry 250 litres of pesticide has been engaged in aerial spray operations. Earlier, the helicopter was stationed at Barmer's Uttarlai airbase.
Under the agreement with the company, around 100-hour flight has been mandated to it.
On the other hand, the help of the Air Force will also be taken to eliminate the locusts.
The Air Force has modified its three Mi-17 helicopters for locust control operations and will reach Jaisalmer on Saturday evening.
"One helicopter has reached already and the Mi-17 helicopters will reach here in the evening. With the help of these helicopters, we will be able to take control of the situation. Big areas will be covered by the helicopters, whereas, in small spots, we are using drones," informed Locust Control Officer Rajesh Kumar.
