Ghulam Nabi Azad expresses resentment towards PSA, calls it 'murder of democracy'

Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday accused BJP of 'murdering the democracy' in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir by slapping PSA on top political leaders who don't even have any cases against them.

Ajmer(Rajasthan): Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday said that it's the first time in the democracy that top political leaders of Kashmir have been detained and put in house arrest under PSA charges who don't even have any cases against them.

The list includes two former chief ministers of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kahsmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. He showed his resentment towards the state's decision of imposing PSA and said, "It is straightaway the murder of democracy".

He also added that political leaders working for the country are being slapped with PSA, both the former chief ministers of Kashmir are already under detention since the past six months after the Central government scrapped Article 370 in the Valley.

The PSA is a Jammu and Kashmir law which came into force in 1978, often described as a draconian measure, allows authorities to detain a person for up to two years without a trial. National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah was detained by J&K administration under the provisions of this law.

Former Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was in Ajmer on Friday where he was greeted by congress party workers.
