Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot begins speaking in assembly

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the Prime Minister and other states should be inspired by Rajasthan.

"Many times there are political differences in the country, in your party (BJP), it happened during Vasundhara Raje's regime," he said.

He added that there was no tradition of phone-tapping in the state. Training guns at the opposition BJP he said, "What you did in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh Goa and Manipur. You have no concern over whether democracy is in danger. Only two people are ruling."

"I am 69 years old and I have been in politics for 50 years. As the CM of Rajasthan, I am worried about the state of our democracy. When the Bhairon Singh Shekhawat government was in power in the state, there was a plan to topple it. As the then PCC chief, I met the Prime Minister and the state Governor refused to be part of the plan to bring down an elected government," the CM added.

Deputy leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore slams Gehlot-led govt

Deputy leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore said, "The public has been seeing the drama unfold in Rajasthan over the past one month. The actors, heroes, villains are all from one party. People of Rajasthan bore the brunt of factionalism within the party. Gehlot himself said for 1.5 years he did not talk to his deputy Chief Minister. How can the government function smoothly like this? How can a party indulge in 'Elephant trading' level allegations of horse-trading at us? Did you not surreptitiously affect the merger of all BSP MLAs?"

He also added, "Many things will be said, much will be revealed. Whatever we had to say or do, we have been cured of our ailments. We have consulted a 'doctor' in Delhi and we are back now."

Crucial session of Rajasthan Assembly begins

A key session of the Rajasthan assembly in which the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government will move a vote of confidence began Friday.

The session comes after a month-long political crisis in the state which started with the rebellion by Sachin Pilot and 18 other Congress MLAs.

The chief minister chaired a CLP meeting on Thursday where the decision to move the vote of confidence was taken.

The CLP meeting was also attended by the 18 MLAs who had revolted along with Pilot, a party leader had said.

However, the Opposition BJP said on Thursday that the party will move a motion of no confidence against the government.

With the disgruntled MLAs led by Pilot back in the party-fold following the intervention of the top leadership, the Congress is likely to pass the floor test.

In a House of 200, the party has 107 MLAs and the support of independents and allies. The BJP has 72 members.

Rajasthan floor test LIVE Updates

Jaipur:The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) through its National General Secretary, Satish Chandra Misra, on Thursday issued a whip to its six MLAs elected to the Rajasthan Assembly, directing all of them to vote against the Congress during the 'vote of confidence' or any other proceedings to be held during the Assembly session of Rajasthan Legislature.

If any of them violates the order, they will face disqualification under Para 2 (l)(b) of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India, said the whip.

All the six MLAs have been issued separate notices wherein they have been informed that since the BSP is a recognised national party, there cannot be any merger under para (4) of the Schedule at the state level at the instance of the six MLAs, unless there is a merger of the entire BSP everywhere at the national level which admittedly has not been done in the present case, and therefore they cannot claim any merger under any illegal and unconstitutional order of the Speaker which is against the Schedule as well as against several judgments of the Supreme Court, including the decision in the case of Jagjit Sing vs the state of Haryana in 2006.

It has been further stated in the notice that the six BSP MLAs are bound to follow the "whip", failing which they would entail disqualification.

The six MLAs who contested for BSP and later joined the Congress include and later joined the Congress include Rajendra Gudha, Wajib Ali, Joginder Awana, Sandeep Yadav, Lakhan Meena, Deepchand Kheria.
