Police clash with sand smugglers in Rajasthan

In an incident related to 'Bajri Mafia' in Rajasthan's Dholpur, an elderly woman was critically injured as a tractor-trolley driven by a man involved in the illegal activity lost control over his vehicle and hit her. They also attacked police as the personnel tried to arrest them.

Dholpur: An elderly woman was critically injured as a tractor-trolley hit her while she was standing in front of her house, police said.

The incident took place at Patpara Road when 'Bajri Mafia' (people involved in illegal mining and transport of river sand) were transporting bajri illegally.

Police said the people involved in the illegal activity pelted stones as it tried to arrest them and confiscate their vehicles. Police retaliated by pelting stones back on them and firing a few shots.

'Bajri Mafia' injures woman

"The driver of the tractor-trolley lost control over the vehicle and hit the woman standing in front of her house," police said, adding that they were being attacked by the criminals and they retaliated befittingly.

A case was registered against one Sarnaam Singh Gurjer and was arrested.

Other accomplishes of him were also identified and will be arrested soon, police said.

It said further action has been initiated to deal with the menace in the city.
