Nagaur (Rajasthan): After two days of dharna following the death of an elderly man in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, family members of the deceased and other community members decided to end their protest on Friday.
Earlier on June 24, an elderly person, Hanuman Meghwal was attacked by some people due to a dispute revolving around an encroachment on a road in Savantgadh village. Meghwal, who was severely injured, was referred to Jaipur for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Based on the family's complaint, a murder case was registered against around 12 people at the Maroth police station. The body of the deceased was kept at the government hospital in Nawan.
The kin of the deceased and other community members then sat on a dharna outside the SDM's office. They wanted arrests to be made immediately, the road to be cleared, among other demands.
"We wanted the family to get justice. The perpetrators should be arrested and the road must be cleared. The other two major demands are that the family must immediately be provided with compensation under the SC/ST Act, and that a family member must be given a government job," said BL Bhati, a representative of the Meghwal community.
