Cyber fraudster arrested in Jaipur

A case has been registered in Jaipur where a 25-year-old man, posed as army personnel to lure a customer to buy a washing machine and transferred Rs 98,000 through Paytm app. Reacting on the complaint, Jaipur police traced the number and catch the fraudster.

Jaipur:Fraudsters are now cashing on the trust and goodwill of the Indian Army and paramilitary forces to cheat people online. A web is weaved around potential buyers or sellers on sites such as OLX and Quikr and people are lured by either the promise of second-hand goods or any other expensive item.

Similarly, a case has been registered in Jaipur where a 25-year-old man, posed as army personnel to lure a customer to buy a washing machine and transferred Rs 98,000 through Paytm app.

According to the reports, Sonali Kalra, a resident of Jaipur registered a case regarding an online fraud on January 9.

"A man, posing as army personnel asked me to buy a second-hand washing machine of Rs 3,000. He asked me to pay Rs 1 into his account in order to check the authenticity. When I transferred the amount, he asked me to scan a QR code. Soon after scanning the code, I got a message of Rs 98,000 deducted from my account. I tried to call the mobile number, but, it was unreachable", said Kalra in her report.

Reacting on the complaint, Jaipur police traced the number and catch the fraudster. He admitted his crime and disclosed that he has been involved in similar cases since January 2018.
