Jaipur (Rajasthan):Ambulance services were crippled across Rajasthan on Wednesday after the employes went on an indefinite strike demanding fulfilment of their demands.

The Rajasthan Ambulance Employees Union has accused the government of cheating and said that government has not yet fulfilled their demands and in protest against this, the ambulance service will be completely stopped across the state on October 21.

Under the leadership of the state president of Rajasthan Ambulance Employees Union, Virendra Singh Shekhawat, the employees protested by raising slogans outside the SMS hospital in Jaipur.

Demands of the Employees:

Masks and Sanitisers to be kept available in every ambulance.

Old and damaged vehicles to be repaired.

Diesel problems should be overcome.

The increment of staff should not be stopped.

Earlier, in December 2019, Rajasthan high court had ordered the state government to hike the salaries of the employees by 20 per cent which has, however, not been implemented till date.

State President of Rajasthan Ambulance Employees Union, Virendra Singh Shekhawat, said that the ambulance employees are continuously in talks with the government for the past 6 months, but till date, the demands have not been met.

The employees further alleged that earlier a tender was issued to operate the ambulance service and the demands of the employees union were not included in that following which the ambulance operations company has been exploiting the employees for the last 12 years.

The Union also alleged that employees are also being harassed by GVK EMRI, an ambulance service provider even when they are providing their best services during COVID-19 pandemic and the company neither provides the employees with the masks nor with the sanitisiers.

Earlier, in November 2019, the employees of the Ambulance union went on strike fearing job losses which was, however, called off in December following assurances from the state government.
