Ajmer city Congress urges CM, Dy CM to rescue stranded pilgrims

Ajmer: The Ajmer city Congress has urged help from the state Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to provide transport facility for around 3,000 pilgrims stranded in the Ajmer Dargah area.

Congress spokesperson Muzaffar Bharti said that city Congress President Vijay Jain has reported in this regard to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot.

The city Congress has also written to PM Narendra Modi and CMs of Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and West Bengal urging them to either airlift or provide other transport facilities for around 3,000 pilgrims stranded in Dargah area.

According to sources, these pilgrims are putting additional pressure on the Dargah committee and locals who are feeding them two meals a day and accommodating them in their houses.

Since curfew has been slapped in the area following a COVID-19 positive case, those who are helping them with food and water are finding it difficult to feed them.

These pilgrims some days before the lockdown and got stuck due to cancellation of trains and bus services, sources said.

Most of these pilgrims have vacated the hotels and are staying at the free space provided by locals. They are living in small rooms with 8-10 members in a room. These include 569 from Uttar Pradesh, 271 from Bihar, 744 from West Bengal, 255 from Maharashtra, 601 from Andhra Pradesh, 356 from Karnataka, 75 from Gujarat, 28 from Delhi and 77 from Jharkhand, sources added.
