Kalwa (Rajasthan):At least 53 peacocks were found dead while 26 others were found injured in Kalwa area of Nagaur district on Friday.
The village sarpanch informed the police after the carcasses were found on the government land here, a police official said.
Forest official speaking over the deaths of peacock The official said that the cause of death will be known after post-mortem and no case has been registered yet.
Meanwhile, all the dead peacocks were cremated in presence of Nagaur Dy SP Deedwana Sanjay Gupta and other forest officials.
Earlier, in a similar incident in 2019, 250 peacocks were found dead in Nainwa of Bundi and 300 in Nagaur whereas more than 85 peacocks were found dead in this year.
The peacock is India's national bird and protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
Earlier on Thursday, over a hundred crows have been found dead in the Jhalawar and Jodhpur districts after which the administration imposed a curfew within the radius of 1 km.
However, National High-Security Animal Disease Laboratory (NHSADL) in its report confirmed the deaths of crows due to 'Avian Influenza'.
