Jaipur (Rajasthan): As many as 16 MGNREGA workers were hospitalised on Wednesday after they inhaled insecticides which were sprayed to thwart locust swarms in Rajasthan's Jaipur district.
According to reports, the agriculture department had sprayed insecticides in Jaisinghpura to combat the locust swarms which have been ravaging fields last night.
There was an MGNREGA work site situated at a close distance from the pot where the insecticide was sprayed. When workers came to the site, next morning, many of them fell ill.
"We came to the site at 7 am. The vehicles spraying the insecticide had already left, but with the winds blowing towards us, many of us fell sick," said Seema Meena, a worker at the site.
