SAD delegation meets Jaishankar over security of Sikhs in Pakistan

Sukhbir Singh Badal led a SAD delegation to Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar. They took up the issue of security of Sikhs in Pakistan following the attack on Gurdwara Nankana Sahib.

New Delhi: A Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) delegation led by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday met Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, here and discussed with him the issue of security of Sikhs in Pakistan.

The delegation, including general secretary and spokesperson of SAD, Prem Singh Chandumajra, MLA of Delhi Assembly and president of SAD, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and several others, met the minister and take up the issue of Sikh security in neighbouring Pakistan following an attack on Gurdwara Nankana Sahib which is situated near Lahore where the first Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak, was born.

On Friday, the Gurdwara was attacked by a Muslim mob while Sikh devotees were stuck inside the shrine. The mob that had gathered outside raised communal and hateful slogans against the minority community and pelted stones on the shrine, videos circulated on social media showed.

Reportedly, the mob was led by the family of Mohammed Hassan, the man who had allegedly abducted and converted a Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, to protest police action against him.
