Punjab: Sugarcane farmers to meet Amarinder Singh on Tuesday, traffic jam deferred

The strike organised by the sugarcane farmers in Jalandhar for the last four days will continue tomorrow as well. The farmers have been asked to join a meeting with Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh at 3 pm on Tuesday.

Jalandhar (Punjab): The strike organised by the sugarcane farmers in Jalandhar for the last four days will continue tomorrow as well. It is worth mentioning that the farmers have been protesting on the National Highway and the railway tracks of Jalandhar for the last four days regarding the prices of sugarcane and arrears. Earlier, the farmers have had a meeting with the cabinet ministers and officers of the Punjab government in Chandigarh on Sunday, but no conclusion could be reached on the issue in this meeting.

On Monday, a meeting was held on behalf of the farmers with the administration of Jalandhar regarding the price of sugarcane procurement, which is currently set at Rs 470. The farmers have been asked to join a meeting with Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh at 3 pm on Tuesday. Farmer leader Manjit Singh Rai said that since the farmers will meet CM Amarinder Singh tomorrow at 3 pm, there will be no traffic jam in Punjab tomorrow and protest will continue on the Jalandhar National Highway and the railway tracks.

Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu has tweeted in favour of the protesting sugarcane farmers, citing that despite the cost of cultivation of sugarcane is higher in Punjab, the state assured price of sugarcane is higher in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
