Punjab MPs meet Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and request more funds to fight COVID-19. As per Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu around 90,000 NRI Punjabis have returned to India last one month and many of them have symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

New Delhi: Parliamentarians from Punjab met Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and requested to grant funds for relief and medical purposes amid COVID-19 outbreak in the state.

As per Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu around 90,000 NRI Punjabis have returned to India last one month and many of them have symptoms of novel coronavirus.

Letter to Union Health Minister

"The number of COVID-19 patients are going to increase alarmingly. To contain the disease Punjab is preparing to combat and has made stringent plans up to grass root level. We require more extra manpower, specialist, doctors, nurses, Anesthetists etc," the letter read.

According to reports, the delegation of parliamentarians requested Dr Harsh Vardhan to allocate funds for health services to meet the urgent demands.

Punjab health minister in a letter requested additional funds of rupees 150 crore and health minister assured the MPs for all the possible help from Government of India.

Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that Punjab has huge number of NRIs and for test and treatment additional resources are required.

The delegation included Manish Tiwari, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Dr Amar Singh ,Gurjeet Singh Aujla of Congress and Bhagwant Mann of Aam Aadmi Party.
