Chandigarh: Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Singh Bajwa wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh suggesting steps to ensure physical safety and economic security of migrant labourers in Punjab.
In a letter, Mr Bajwa called these labourers the backbone of Punjabi economy, highlighting their importance to the industrial and agricultural sectors in the state.
He urged the government to open Government schools, colleges, ITI and other government offices that are closed to house these labourers immediately.
The MP pointed out that harvest season will begin in mid-April, and without these labourers, the entire harvest could be lost.
