Chandigarh:The Punjab and Haryana Court on Friday heard the plea of former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Navjot Singh Sidhu seeking to upgrade his security cover from Y-plus to Z-plus category in view of life threat. Earlier, the Centre had provided Z-plus security cover to Sidhu but it was withdrawn following his one-year sentence in the road rage case. After his release from jail, Siddhu was provided Y-plus security.
Sidhu had moved the court against this, the hearing for which was held today. During the earlier hearing on April 28, the court had issued a notice to the government and sought its response. The government has sought time from the court to reply in this regard. The next hearing has been listed on May 12.
In his petition, Sidhu said that his security cover should be increased as his life is under threat. Sidhu said he has been receiving death threats. After his release, he went to the house of Sidhu Moosewala and said that gangster Lawrence was threatening him openly. He said it seems that the Punjab government wants to kill another Sidhu by reducing his security.
This apart, Sidhu referred to an incident that occurred a few days after his release where a suspicious man was seen covering himself with a shawl on the roof of his house in Patiala. The man was spotted by Sidhu's domestic help. Based on the statement of his domestic help, a case was registered at the Patiala police against an unknown person. Sidhu said his life is in danger and vented out his anger on both the central and the state governments for reducing his security cover.
