Mumbai (Maharashtra):The central government should not discredit the Punjabis who are mainly involved in this movement; they should be treated with harmony, said NCP chief Sharad Pawar while reacting to the violence during the farmers' tractor parade in the national capital. Modi government should not commit the sin of destabilizing Punjab again, he said.
Pawar said, "It was only when the House approved the bill without sending it to the select committee. I thought it could go wrong. There may be a reaction from the peasantry somewhere. For the last 50 to 60 days, farmers in Punjab have taken a stand on the matter and agitated very peacefully. It is unprecedented to show patience for so long. While the farmers were playing their role so peacefully, the Center should have exercised restraint. However, the government did not want to give up its stand, so all discussions failed.”
After so many days of peaceful agitation, no solution was forthcoming. In order to make a big agitation in this regard, they tried to take out a tractor morcha. These peaceful protesters were to come on the streets, so the Center needed to look at them sensibly. However, that did not happen, he said.
