Amritsar: A woman in Punjab has dedicated her whole life to girls from families of Sikh martyrs, and also those who were unfortunately abandoned by their families.

Bibi Sandeep Kaur has given a new direction to the life of orphans (mostly girls) and helpless girls by adopting over 250 girls aged 2 years onwards who have been either abandoned by their parents or are the orphaned daughters of those who died due to terror activities in Punjab.

Kaur's story oozes with bravery and inspiration. In 1989, she married Dharam Singh, a Khalistani separatist. Later, she along with her husband was arrested during an encounter. While in jail, she learned about her husband's death after which she was left all alone with her son.

It was here that she realized that the people from families like her's are the ones most likely to get abandoned. Since that day, Sandeep decided that she would provide free education to the children of martyrs and has been successful in achieving the objective.

Kaur has proven to be a boon for the orphaned girls. Her courage and thinking has given a new opportunity to the girls to stand on their own feet.
