Morinda (Punjab): Gurudwara Kotwali Sahib in Punjab's Morinda is the place where Guru Gobind Singh's mother, Mata Gujari along with his two sons were detained.

ETV Bharat brings to you the saga of Kotwali Sahib, where Mata Gujari along with Sahibzada Fateh Singh, Sahibzada Zoravar Singh were detained for a night.

The three were detained after Gangu Brahmin, their cook tipped the Mughal soldiers in return for a cash reward from the Mughals.

Earlier, Gangu learnt that Sahibzades were carrying gold coins and developed a plan to steal their gold. Not only did he succeed, but he also raised a false alarm following the heist and claimed the presence of thieves in their neighbourhood and pointed out that one must be careful with their valuables.

Further, Gangu decided to turn them over to the Mughal army, fearing the suspicion directed against him.

Acting on Gangu’s information, Mughal authorities, Jaani Khan and Maani Khan brought Mata Gujari and the two Sahibzadas to the military outpost.

The three were neither served any food nor given any warm clothes. They were kept in a prison cell for a night and were then taken to Sirhind (now Fatehgarh Sahib) to face trial and execution.

Sikhs from faraway places visit the Kotwali to pay their respect to the Sahibzadas who showed exceptional courage in the face of cruelty and adversity.
