Farmers end protest in Malout as Punjab Police assure probe

Farmers have called off their protest in Punjab's Malout after the police assured them of an evidence-based probe into the attack on BJP MLA Arun Narang. On March 27, the BJP legislator was thrashed and his clothes ripped off by agitators in the Muktsar district.

Muktsar (Punjab): Farmers who sat on a protest against the registration of FIR against those farmers who physically assaulted a BJP MLA Arun Narang, ended on Monday after the Punjab Police assured them of strict evidence-based investigation.

"No innocent person will be punished and evidence-based investigation will be done," a Punjab Police Official said.

According to the police, Gurmail Singh, the SP of Punjab also suffered injuries on the head, elbows and legs, while trying to rescue the BJP legislator from the irate mob.

An FIR has also been filed for the same.

On the other hand, farmers have been continuing their protest against the three contentious farm laws - The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act.
