24-yr-old Indian Army soldier dies during rescue op in Ladakh

Patiala (Punjab): A 24-year-old Indian Army soldier was killed reportedly after his boat capsized in Ladakh's Shyok river during a rescue operation on Friday.

Lance Naik Saleem Khan, hailed from Mardanheri village in Punjab's Patiala and belonged to the Army's 58 Engineer Regiment.

The soldier's body will be brought to his native village today, where his final rites will take place.

Pertinently, Saleem's father Mangal Din was also killed while on duty for the Indian Army.

Offering condolences to the braveheart's family, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the nation salutes the brave soldier.

Taking to Twitter, Singh wrote, "Saddened to hear about the demise of Lance Naik Saleem Khan in Ladakh. He belonged to Mardaheri village in Patiala district. My sincere condolences to his family. The nation salutes the brave soldier. Jai Hind!"
