WATCH: Fani damaged Puri temple, broke blessing tree

Cyclone Fani on Friday lashed Odisha, triggering heavy rainfall accompanied by wind touching the speed of 200 kmph. Following which the 12th century Shree Jagannath temple in Puri was damaged. The impact is visible from the entrance of the temple also known as Lion’s Gate or ‘Jay-Vijay Dwar’. Fani was the worst cyclonic storm in 43 years.

Puri (Odisha): The 12th century Shree Jagannath temple in Puri was damaged following the devastating cyclone Fani, which killed over 30 people and injured many other.

The impact is visible from the entrance of the temple also known as Lion’s Gate or ‘Jay-Vijay Dwar’ and the Jay idol has been broken. The wish fulfilling banyan tree within the temple premises has also broken down.

Cyclone Fani on Friday lashed Odisha, triggering heavy rainfall accompanied by wind touching the speed of 200 kmph, killing and injuring many, a trail of destruction that included damaged houses, uprooted trees and electricity poles.

The cyclone, the worst April storm in 43 years, caused "huge damage" in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Khordha districts in the state, according to the Odisha government.

PM Modi had announced that the Centre has released Rs 1,000 crore to Odisha and other states to deal with the devastation caused by Fani.
