Odisha: Rs 22,500 fine slapped on biker on multiple charges under MVA

A fine of Rs 22,500 was slapped on a motorcyclist in Kantabanji area of Odisha's Balangir district for allegedly violating multiple traffic rules. Police have now seized his vehicle.

Balangir: A motorcyclist was on Sunday fined with Rs 22,500 in Kantabanji area of Odisha's Balangir district for allegedly violating multiple traffic rules under the newly amended Motor Vehicles Act.

According to police, Sushant Meher, had to shell out the huge amount after the RTO official charged him for not carrying driving license and other necessary documents.

As per the challan issued, Sushant was slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 for assaulting RTO officials, Rs 5,000 for not carrying documents, Rs 5,000 for speedy driving, Rs 10,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol and Rs 500 for violating multiple traffic rules. However, Sushant denied the charge of drunken driving.

Police has now seized his vehicle.

Parliament in July had passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which seeks to tighten road traffic regulations such as the issuance of driving licence and imposed stricter penalties for traffic-related violations. The Act came into effect on September 1.
