Kalahandi (Odisha):A woman Block Development Officer (BDO) in Odisha’s Kalahandi district set an example by carrying a patient on a cot for 2 km and later took her to hospital in an ambulance on Thursday.
According to sources, Madanpur-Rampur block BDO Ruman Jafree rushed to Kaupadar village of the district after some residents of the village informed her about a woman's critical health condition.
The victim has suffered critical burn injuries due to a fire mishap. Earlier she was admitted to a nearby PHC. Later, she was shifted to Madanpur-Rampur CHC as her health condition deteriorated, sources said.
Odisha BDO wins hearts by carrying patient on a cot As the patient's health condition started to worsen, her family members contacted the 108 ambulance service. However, the ambulance driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to a non-motorable road.
On being informed, the BDO rose to the occasion and had to travel on foot along with few villagers by carrying her on a cot for 2 km through hilly terrain and made the woman reach near the ambulance.
Later, the BDO took the woman to the Community Health Centre in Madanpur-Rampur in his own vehicle. The critically injured woman was kept on observation in the hospital when the last reports came in, sources added.
