Maoists blow up mobile tower in Odisha's Malkangiri

In yet another incident of red terror in Odisha's Malkangiri, Maoists bombed a mobile communication tower of BSNL in order to disrupt communications.

Malkangiri: In a bid to disrupt communication network in their stronghold, Maoist ultras on Friday blew up a BSNL mobile tower near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border at Erabor village in Sukma district.

According to sources, around 10 to 15 heavily-armed Naxals came to Erabor village and bombed the tower using explosives.

Subsequently, they blocked the road with stones and affixed posters against the government and security forces. After they dispersed into the forest, CRPF soldiers reached the spot and removed the blockade.

Roadblocks placed by the ultras

Earlier on Thursday, the Border Security Forces (BSF) has seized 21 kilograms of gelatin explosives in Malkangiri's Rajulkunda forest.

Acting on a tip-off, 76 BSF Battalion launched a combing operation and recovered the explosives which were found stuffed in sacks at different locations in the forest range.

In the past, Maoists have used these explosives to manufacture land mines to target police personnel and the BSF engaged in the combing operations.
