Man sentenced to seven years RI for snatching cop's gold chain

A chain snatcher has been sentenced to 7-years of Rigorous Imprisonment by a court in Cuttack. Siddeswar Kar was proven guilty by Chief Judicial Magistrate Justice Haraprasad Patnaik, who delivered the judgement on Friday.

Cuttack: A man has been sentenced to 7 years of Rigorous Imprisonment by a court here for snatching gold chain of a woman police officer three years ago.

Chief Judicial Magistrate and Assistant Sessions Judge, Justice Haraprasad Patnaik, has delivered the judgement on Friday regarding the jail term.

The court found 23-year old Siddeshwar Kar guilty of committing the crime three years ago.

On August 13, 2016, a motorcycle-borne man, Kar, had snatched the gold chain of the woman police officer near a traffic signal, when she was travelling with another lady constable on a moped in the city, according to the prosecution.

Eventually, Kar was caught by bystanders while he was trying to flee.
