Kashmiri man posing as PMO official, Army doctor arrested in Odisha

Sources said that the accused was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of the CID, Crime Branch Odisha during a raid at Neulpur area in Jajpur district. STF IG Jai Narayan Pankaj said that the accused is wanted by Kashmir Police in relation to a case of cheating and forgery for which one non-bailable warrant is pending against him.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a Kashmiri man on the charge of cheating people by posing as an official of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), a neuro-specialist doctor, an Army doctor and a close associate of some high-ranking NIA officials. Police suspect the accused may have links with some suspicious anti-national elements as well.

The 37-year-old man who allegedly has links with several people in Pakistan and suspicious elements in Kerala also married many women in several states, STF IG JN Pankaj said here. The accused is said to be a resident of the Waskura area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Following a tip-off, the STF arrested the accused identified as Sayed Ishaan Bukhari alias Ishaan Bukhari alias Dr Ishaan Bukhari in Neulpur village in Jajpur district on Friday. "The accused was found to be impersonating a Neuro Specialist, an Army Doctor, an officer in PMO, a close associate of high-ranking NIA officials and others. Numerous forged documents like medical degree certificates issued by Cornel University of USA, Canadian Health Services Institute, and others were also seized," Pankaj told reporters.

This apart, several affidavits, bonds, ATM cards, blank cheques, Aadhaar cards and visiting cards were also seized from the man who hailed from Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir. "It was also found that the accused has married at least 6-7 women from various parts of India including Kashmir, UP, Maharashtra and Odisha," Pankaj said.

Several forged documents like medical degree certificates have been seized from the possession of the accused. Some blank signed documents, affidavits, bonds, numerous identity cards, ATM cards, blank Cheques, Aadhaar cards, visiting cards were also seized.

According to the STF IG, the accused was in conversation with some Pakistani people and involved in “suspicious activities in the states like Kerala, Punjab and Kashmir”. “He was also in contact with some organizations,” he said. The STF IG said that they are investigating a possible terror link in the case. It can be recalled that in August 2017, the accused whose original name is believed to be Tahir Bukhari was arrested by Kashmir Police while impersonating a doctor with the Army and a NASA scientist.Also read:
