Odisha engineer quits job to set up nursery

Siba Narayan Padhiary from Nembara village in Odisha is an electrical engineer by profession who became a successful businessman by setting up a nursery.

Kendrapara: Youths today are leaving their villages and moving towards cities to lead a life of comfort and modernisation. Nowadays, the only aim of life for the younger generation is to find a good job after completion of their studies. But still, there are some people who prefer to stay back and fulfill their dreams in their own land.

One such individual is, Siba Narayan Padhiary who hails from Nembara village under Kuhudi Panchayat in Marshaghai block of Kendrapara district. He is an electrical engineer by profession who has been able to become a successful businessman by setting up a nursery and earning in lakhs annually.

Siba Narayan was serving in a private company as an electrical engineer since 1995. But now he has given up his job and produces over five thousand varieties of indigenous and imported flower and fruit saplings in his nursery. Along with that he has also been producing and selling different varieties of cactus and Bonsai saplings. He has planted saplings of flowers like Dahlia, Zinnia, Marigold, Lily and ‘Sebati’ (Chrysanthemum) in his nursery. Besides, he is also selling imported saplings of flowers and plants like Tritonia, Cyclamen and Priscilla.

He also provides fruit saplings like mango, papaya, guava, jack fruit, coconut and capsicum at reasonable rates. He has provided employment to some youths of his village in his nursery. Siba's customers are very happy with his kind behavior and also the reasonable rates at which he offers the saplings.

It was his tremendous passion for gardening and plantation since his childhood, that made Siba quit his job at the private company and take up this profession. Initially, the plants were planted just to add beauty to the surrounding, following which people started approaching him to purchase the saplings. His journey in the new profession took a boom since then.

Apart from this, he also plays the organ during his leisure time. Siba becomes a source of help for people by repairing their Dish TV or Television sets.

He works for 12 hours and earns around three to four thousand rupees a day. Though managing a nursery is a tedious job, Siba says that he feels very satisfied with his work as the result of his hard work is always very eye-catching. Siba says that, if government provides assistance he will be able to plant more and more different varieties of plants in the future too.
