Venezuelan woman held for cocaine smuggling in Mumbai

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has arrested a Venezuelan woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine worth Rs. 4.77 million.

Mumbai: A 27-year-old Venezuelan woman was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle nearly 800 grams of cocaine worth Rs. 4.77 million by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

The woman was apprehended on the basis of specific intelligence inputs after she landed in Mumbai from Sao Paulo on August 9.

Later, she was taken to JJ Hospital for x-ray examination.

The report revealed the presence of some foreign objects in her body and later the woman admitted that she had consumed 80 capsules before taking the flight to the city at Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Meanwhile, the woman has been remanded in judicial custody till August 20.
