Nanded: In a classic case of the prevailing social inequalities in the society, a woman from Pardhi community in Pimpari village of Nanded district suffered a miscarriage on Tuesday due to social boycott.
Mangala Panwar hailed from the Pardhi community which is looked down by the villagers. On Tuesday, she developed sudden abdominal cramps and needed immediate medical attention but nobody in the village came forward to take her to the hospital.
The divide in the society prevails to this extent that even a passenger vehicle refused to take the woman to the nearby hospital.
Woman suffers miscarriage due to social boycott in Maha With no option left, Mangala, along with her family members, walked six kilometres to reach the nearest hospital from the village. After reaching the hospital near Basmat, doctors examined her and declared that the baby had died in the womb.
The woman's family has lodged a police complaint in this regard. The police superintendent has assured the grieving mother that necessary action would be ensured against those responsible, including the driver of the passenger vehicle.
