Mumbai (Maharashtra): With the AYUSH Ministry asking Patanjali to stop advertising its 'coronavirus drug', Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday warned Yoga guru Ramdev that the state will not allow the sale of "spurious medicines."
Stating that the National Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur will find out whether clinical trials of Patanjali Ayurveda's 'Coronil' were done at all, Deshmukh tweeted, "An abundant warning to @yogrishiramdev that Maharashtra won't allow sale of spurious medicines."
This comes just a day after Deshmukh had welcomed the AYUSH Ministry's move of ordering a ban on the advertisement of Patanjali's drug.
"Claims of a cure for Corona without sharing clinical trials, sample size details, registration with authorities can't be acceptable. It’s great that @moayush banned such advt. There can be no compromise with public health & well-being at all," Deshmukh had tweeted.
Earlier on June 23, Ramdev's herbal medicine company Patanjali Ayurved claimed to have discovered a medicine that could cure coronavirus in just seven days - a claim that the Ayush Ministry scoffed at by seeking stopping of advertisements for the drug.
While Ramdev claimed that Ayurved-based 'Coronil and Swasari' medicine have shown 100 per cent favourable results during clinical trials on COVID-19 infected patients except those on a life support system, the Ayush Ministry sought from the company detailed report on composition, testing and other data of the drugs.
