Shiva Sena mouthpiece hits out at K'taka deputy CM over border dispute

Following this, an editorial in Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamana' targeted Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi's remark that Belgaum will continue to be a part of Karnataka.

Mumbai: In the wake of the ongoing border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra, all ministers of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government (MVA) wore black badges on Sunday.

Protests were held in several parts of the state especially in bordering districts of Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur. Slogans were raised against Deputy Chief minister of Karnataka Laxman Savadi who recently said that Belagavi will remain a part of Karnataka.

Following this, an editorial in Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamana' targeted Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi over his remark that Belgaum will continue to be a part of Karnataka.

The editorial said the boundary dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka (over Belgaum and other border areas) is pending before the Supreme Court.

The 'Saamana' editorial alleged that there have been 'brutal attacks' on Marathi people, language, and culture in the Marathi-speaking areas in Karnataka for the past 60-odd years.

Referring to Maharashtra ministers' sporting black ribbons on Sunday, the editorial said if the leaders of the BJP and other parties in the state had joined the protest, it would have highlighted the states unity on the issue.

The BJP is in power in Karnataka and if "atrocities" are being committed against Marathi brothers there, then the hearts of the party's leaders in Maharashtra 'must soak in tears', the editorial said.
