Mumbai:A one and a half month old baby who was diagnosed COVID-19 and operated for brain hemorrhage last week was discharged on Friday after he made a stupendous recovery.
There was cheer with a 45-day-old conquering coronavirus to dispel the gloom over 2,598 new cases getting reported from across Maharashtra on Monday.
Amid dark times of the global pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the news provided much needed ray of hope to everyone in the worst-hit city in the country.
As per reports, the newborn was admitted in the hospital on May 13, and after two days, he tested positive for coronavirus. A day after the admission, his health condition started deteriorating and the CT scan reports revealed blood clot between the brain and surface of the brain.
An urgent surgery was the only option and on May 18, a team of six doctors including pediatricians, neurosurgeons and anesthetists operated the infant for the brain hemorrhage following three hours of surgery.
Kshitijia Neeraj Mahajan, an anesthetists, among the team of six doctors, ignored her own well-being for the sake of the child’s while inserting a pipe into his airway, despite knowing the boy was COVID-19 psoitive.
Ten days after the treatment, the baby boy was discharged after full recovery and tested negative for COVID-19. Post-surgery the anesthetist too quarantined herself for a period of 14 days.
Earlier, a two-month-old baby boy had been infected by the virus but was effectively treated and discharged.
