Pune: A one and a half-year-old boy, rescued by two women constable from a house at Phuge Vasti in Pimpri Chinchwad district of Pune, who was lying quietly next to the body of his mother.
Meanwhile, police suspect that the mother of the child might have died a couple of days back. As the toddler did not know about it, he started for at least two days in that room.
According to police, the incident came to the fore on Saturday when a foul smell started emanating from the house. The neighbours noticed the child lying near the dead body of the woman, but fearing Covid, they did not help the boy who was starving for at least two days.
The deceased woman, identified as Saraswati Rajesh Kumar (29) was living with her son since her husband, a daily wager had gone to their native place in Uttar Pradesh in connection with some personal work.

For two days the door of the room was closed but neighbours realised something was wrong only when a foul smell started coming from inside. The woman was found dead with her mouth frothing while her toddler son was found alive but in a weak condition.
On being informed by the neighbours, the police reached the spot and the two constables, Sushila Gabhale and Rekha Vaje fed the baby milk and biscuits and took him to a hospital after he regained consciousness.
The neighbours said that they were aware of her death but no one came to see the child fearing coronavirus. Meanwhile, the boy has tested negative for Covid-19. Following the directives of the Child Welfare Committee, the police have shifted him to a child care home.
The police have contacted the husband of the deceased and started a probe into the matter after getting the autopsy report. The prima facie it seems that the woman died by suicide. Further investigations are underway.
