Pune:In a bid to comfort the Covid-19 frontline health workers during their busy duty schedules, a 19-year-old electrical engineering student has developed conventional PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kits.

Nihal Singh Adarsh, who developed the system claimed that the ventilator system would avoid perspiration in people using the kit and can prevent excessive sweating while wearing it.

The idea behind Nihal's creation is his mother, who is a doctor by profession.

"My mother knew how difficult it was for medical staff to work in the PPE kit, besides there is risk of fungal infection. When I was in my first year of engineering, I was working on Covid-19 related project. And while discussing with my mother regarding the same, I realised that it is the biggest challenge to work wearing a PPE kit," Nihal said to ETV Bharat.

"With the help of my friends, I started making the ventilator kit Cov-tech ventilator system and he took up the project under Vat Technovation Startup. The Cov-tech ventilation system can be worn inside the PPE kit by tying it like a belt on the waist. This gadget can be electronically charged and the speed of the fan inside the system can be controlled. This system ensures enough ventilation through the PPE kit thus reducing the risk of infection during the long hours when the medical staff is serving while wearing the PPE kit," he said.

Nihal said some doctors in Pune were already using the ventilator system kit and people from various states are demanding his developed PPE kit.

"The ventilator system kit developed by Nihal is not only being used in Pune but other states too are asking for it to be used for the frontline workers. Social organisations too are interested in ordering the kit. Some people want to purchase it to gift it to their doctor parents or relatives who are in the forefront of the battle against Covid," said Nihal's mother.

"I am very happy to be the first person to use the kit developed by my son. It will save us a lot of discomfort which we face while using the PPE kit. I am a proud mother," she said.
