Maharashtra: Pregnant tribal woman carried on makeshift stretcher to hospital

Residents of Thuwanpani village in Maharashtra's Dhule district carried a pregnant woman for three kilometres, on a makeshift stretcher, to get a medical convoy (ambulance), due to lack of proper road connectivity in the region.

Dhule (Maharashtra): In yet another incident showing government's apathy, a pregnant woman had to be carried in a makeshift stretcher all the way to get a medical convoy (ambulance), which is three kilometres from her residence in Thuwanpani village in Shirpur taluka of Dhule district, due to lack of proper road connectivity to her village.

The lack of proper transportation facilities had reportedly prompted the villagers to take up the daunting task of carrying the 22-year-old Vasanta Ravindra Pavara, all the way, on their shoulders to Gurhadpani village.

Seeing her condition getting worse due to the onset of labour pains, the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers called for 108 service asking for an ambulance. Later, the ambulance ferried her to a hospital in Boradi.

The woman was then admitted to a Primary Health centre in Boradi where she delivered a baby, a day after admission in the hospital.

According to hospital authorities, both the new-born baby and the mother are healthy and stable.

For the last eight years, the villagers have been demanding the government for the construction of roads and health centres in the area.
