Amravati (Maharashtra): Pune-bound passengers on-board the Humsafar express were in for a rude shock as they found the train halted around 500 kilometres away at Badnera Railway station on Wednesday morning.
Passengers were asked to take alternative trains According to reports, the 22497 Humsafar Express travelling from Shri Ganganagar Junction to Tiruchirapalli Junction, was diverted at Surat owing to heavy rain in Maharashtra.
The train, which departed from Shri Ganganagar at 2 am on Tuesday, was scheduled to arrive at Pune on Wednesday morning. However, passengers were in for a rude shock when they saw the train being halted at Badnera.
According to the passengers, they were not made aware of the diversion by the Railway authorities, and the fact that the train was not GPS-equipped made matters worse.
Agitated passengers then stormed into the Badnera Station Master's office and demanded that the train go back to the original route.
However, the authorities made it clear that taking the train back to its original route was not possible, and advised passengers to take alternative trains to Pune.
"We were not made aware of the diversion. The authorities are not helping us. There are many students, senior citizens, and women on the train, but they say the train will not go back on its original route," said an angry passenger.
After the train could not proceed towards its onward journey due to the protests by the passengers, authorities called in additional Railway Police personnel to douse the situation.
